We recently had the honor of welcoming interior design students from Harper College to our facilities for a day filled with learning and inspiration. This visit was a fantastic opportunity for us to share our passion for stone craftsmanship and to play a role in shaping the next generation of design leaders.
Our day began with an informative trip to Terrazzo & Marble Supply Companies. Here, we showed the students how we source our materials, emphasizing the importance of understanding the origins and processing of the stones they may one day use in their designs. This part of the tour is crucial, as it lays the foundational knowledge of material quality and vendor relations.
Back at our showroom and fabrication shop, we dove deeper into the heart of our operation. The students were able to explore an array of full stone slabs and witness first-hand the technology that brings our designs to life— from bridge saws and CNC machines to water jets. We demonstrated each machine’s role in our workflow and discussed how technology and traditional craftsmanship merge to create precision and beauty in our projects.
Watching the students’ eyes light up as they saw the transformation of raw materials into finished products was incredibly rewarding. It’s these moments that reinforce our commitment to excellence and our desire to inspire future designers.
This experience was not just an educational day but a bridge between academic learning and real-world application. At DTK Stone Works, we are proud to support Harper College’s mission to provide impactful, practical education that equips students with the skills and confidence they need to lead the design world tomorrow.
We’re excited about the potential of these young creatives and look forward to the innovations they will bring to the industry. Here’s to the future of design, powered by knowledge, creativity, and hands-on experience!
